Justin Zeulner

Mr. Zeulner is an internationally respected leader with decades of experience advancing sustainability, equity, and community resilience across the private, non-profit, and philanthropic sectors. He is the founder and President of The Wave Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to strengthening community health and economic prosperity through innovative, equitable, and environmentally sustainable initiatives. Zeulner works in collaboration with a national coalition of partners to drive progress in sustainable and healthy food systems, zero waste, clean energy and transportation, and clean air and water. His work emphasizes intersectional approaches to climate, social justice, and economic revitalization.

Zeulner is widely known as the pioneer of the sports greening movement and the co-founder of the Green Sports Alliance, an international nonprofit that harnesses the cultural and market influence of sports to promote healthier, more sustainable communities. Under his leadership, the organization expanded its reach to North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia, engaging major professional leagues, collegiate institutions, and high-profile events including the World Cup, Super Bowl, All-Star Games, NCAA Championships, and the Olympics. In collaboration with President Obama, Zeulner helped launch North American Green Sports Day, a landmark initiative to recognize and elevate the environmental impact of sports on a global scale.

Earlier in his career, Zeulner led business, government, and public affairs for the Portland Trail Blazers and the Rose Quarter, one of the busiest sports and entertainment districts in North America. He played a key role in establishing the Trail Blazers as a global leader in corporate sustainability—developing the first professional sports sustainability charter, managing over $20 million in fiscal operations, and overseeing urban development projects such as the “Jumptown” mixed-use entertainment district. He was instrumental in securing LEED certification for the Moda Center (the first major league venue to do so), and co-creating North America’s first eco-district. Appointed by the Mayor of Portland, he also served as President of Venture Portland, supporting the revitalization of small businesses across the city.
On the panel, LJ will share practical strategies to combat food waste, drawing on his servant leadership philosophy and culinary expertise. Using food as a universal language, he’ll challenge attendees to rethink waste through purpose-driven solutions, from community kitchens to institutional reforms, inspiring actionable change for a more sustainable future.
Zeulner’s influence extends into philanthropy through his work with Vulcan Inc. and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, where he helped shape global strategies for climate and community impact. He has collaborated with the U.S. Green Building Council, EPA, Department of Energy, and numerous international bodies to help establish environmental standards and policies that continue to shape public and private sector infrastructure. With a unique ability to convene diverse stakeholders from government leaders and corporations to community organizations and sports franchises Justin Zeulner remains a catalytic force in building healthier, more equitable, and sustainable communities worldwide.
